When I start work with a new client, I learn how to fit into their processes. I familiarise myself with their deadlines, communication preferences, and guidelines.
Editing might look like a solo occupation, but it’s definitely people work. I handle other people’s thoughts and ideas without imposing my own tastes and personal opinions.
Editing is also collaborative. I give feedback to the client. They give feedback to me. I’m always watching my communication style and checking whether I need to adjust my approach.
I like to develop long-standing working relationships with all my clients. It’s the best way for me to understand their production processes and their standards.
